As festivals and tours prepare for a post-pandemic restart, ecolibrium has launched an app to help artists and events tackle travel impacts, March 23rd 2021.

Leaders across the industry, including Music Declares Emergency founders and Bluedot festival organisers, are amongst the first to champion the new App.

The new, free to download app, has been designed to allow everyone working in live events to conveniently measure their carbon emissions from transport. Users can also model lower carbon journeys and take action by investing in climate solutions.

The app has been developed by Digitwell Solutions and brought to you by ecolibrium, the UK charity tackling travel emissions in the live events industry, Download the app in the App Store or from GooglePlay or search for ecolibrium in either.

As the industry gathers momentum to #BuildBackGreener the message from many voices in the sector is that the time has come to take action on the climate crisis and tackle travel emissions:

The industry Show Must Go On Report (2020) published by the Vision: 2025 campaign, identified travel as the most significant carbon impact challenge facing the sector. A travel emissions panel at the Green Events and Innovations Conference, March 2nd, dubbed the issue ‘The Elephant on the Road. Massive Attack’s Robert Del Naja pointed out in a recent interview with The Guardian, March 16th 2021,“Bands don’t need to cancel tours, and festivals don’t need to cancel festivals…there are lots of different solutions.”

Measuring and understanding emissions from travel is a vital first step in identifying solutions; ecolibrium’s Travel Carbon Calculator App, gives industry professionals, tour managers and artists an easy way of understanding the impacts of their travel, by logging miles and calculating the associated emissions. The app also allows users to model lower carbon travel and provides advice on how to reduce travel carbon footprints. The final step in the app is taking positive action for unavoidable emissions by balancing them through ecolibrium’s climate investment programmes; these range from funding community–led renewable energy projects, to tree planting, rainforest protection and ecosystem regeneration.

Early advocates of the app include Music Declares Emergency Co-Founders Maddy Read-Clarke and Sam Lee, who comments;

“Artists should know their footprint as much as they know their shoe-size!  If you have any inclination as a touring musician to acknowledge the carbon impact of your work then the Ecolibrium App is your ’tape measure’ of choice, simple fast and supportive in how to do your offsetting.”

Ben Robinson, Director of Bluedot and Kendal Calling, has committed to using the app to track and offset his travel for the next year; he said:

“Finally, there is a tool to hand that can quickly help me understand the impact of each journey I make. Seeing in real time what emissions my trips create means I can find better options to reduce them. Plus, where it can’t be avoided, I can give something back.”

The app is also championed by Tom Smallwood, Booking Agent for Joss Stone’s ‘Total World Tour,’ during which Joss played in every country of the world and balanced the travel emissions through ecolibrium’s climate solutions programmes, Smallwood comments;

 “We cut emissions as much as possible on the tour by reducing weight, people and trying to find direct routing – and using low carbon transport where possible. The app will be an invaluable tool for planning to cut travel impacts for future tours.”

Hi! I'm Alfie Cooper, an online casino reviewer and iGaming expert. During my time working at NetBet and Unibet, I gained a thorough understanding of the principles and mechanisms of online casinos from the inside. At some point, I became dissatisfied with simply watching newcomers fall into the traps of unscrupulous operators. That's why I launched my own casino review website in the UK: to test, analyze in detail, and explain in simple terms to novice players where the truth lies and where it's just marketing hype.
